Ontario Gardener Magazine - - LOCAL DIRT -

Put July 27 to 29 in your calendar now for the Ontario Horticultural Society’s 112th annual convention. Hosted by OHA District 3, the meeting will take place at the Ambassador Hotel, 1550 Princess Street in the beautiful city of Kingston. The theme is from Shore to Shield.

This year, there will be an early bird bus tour that takes you to tour four Rideau Canal and Thousand Island gardens, with dinner planned at the Ivy Club overlooking the St. Lawrence.

Carson Arthur, the well-known outdoor lifestyle and design expert, now a resident in Prince Edward County, is our keynote speaker. Carson hosts not TV programs, has a radio blog direct and focuses on environmentally friendly design.

Other seminar topics include dry stone wall, the wild side of a garden, and preservation of Indigenous knowledge: Traditional Medicinal Plants, as well as a hands-on demonstration of tree pruning.

Meetings start at 8:45 a.m. and carry on through the day with tours on Friday and Saturday. The tours will include a number of private gardens and a thousand Island boat cruise option. Seminars are also conducted from 1:30 to 4:00 p.m. Saturday evening is the big OHA Award banquet.
