Re: Police officers rushed into duty in hotspots, Oct. 17.
The use of Afghan youth as police officers to provide security for Canadian troops, even in the name of preventing further civilian deaths, is a questionable practice at best. Canada deplores the use of child soldiers elsewhere, and while the Afghan teens will be paid and not abused, it is the use of youth in combat zones that is saddening. At the very least, they should be properly paid for the high risks of the job. Canadian parents would not be happy if this practice were applied to their children, and we should not be comfortable seeing it extended to the teens of Afghanistan.
