Ban has support
I applaud the Canadian Cancer Society’s efforts to promote a ban on the cosmetic use of pesticides on lawns and gardens. During election time, we must remind candidates that we care about our health and the environment.
As someone who has recently lost a family member to cancer, I believe that we must reduce our exposure to potential carcinogens.
Let me state the obvious: Pesticides and herbicides are meant to be toxins.
Preventive medicine is best. More than 120 communities across Canada have restricted pesticide use. When people spray pesticides on lawns and gardens, the chemicals get into our rivers and drinking water. Children in playgrounds are particularly vulnerable, when they play in grass that has been sprayed.
I urge Citizen readers to voice their concerns at all- candidates debates in this municipal election.
