Geminis bag winner of Supernova

Hard- rocking Toronto cool cat and strutting bad- boy/ choirboy Lukas Rossi will perform alongside one- time Guns N’ Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke at the Nov. 4 Gemini Awards in Richmond, B. C., Global Television announced yesterday.

It will be the Rossi’s first public, live performanc­e since being crowned lead singer of the band Rock Star Supernova, as documented in this summer’s reality TV competitio­n series Rock Star: Supernova.

The Gemini Awards recognize the year’s best in Canadian television.

This year’s event, the organizati­on’s 21st, will be televised nationally on Global. Scheduled presenters include Evangeline Lilly, Brent Butt, Wendy Crewson, Nicholas Campbell, Shawn Ashmore and Shaun Mujumder.

Rossi won the reality TV show after topping a field that included 52,000 entrants from 22 cities on six continents. Performers were judged on their stage presence, singing ability and songwritin­g skills. The new band Rock Star Supernova, which also includes Clarke, Tommy Lee and Jason Newsted, will release a debut album Nov. 21. The band will kick off its 29concert inaugural tour with a pair of New Year’s concerts in Las Vegas. Canadian dates include Montreal on Jan. 23, Toronto on Jan. 24 and Vancouver on Feb. 19.

Rossi, 29, bounced around several Canadian and U. S. bands before landing his full- time gig with Rock Star Supernova, including The Tea Party, Papa Roach, I Mother Earth, Edwin, Big Wreck and his own band, Cleavage.
