Anglo picks female CEO


Anglo American Plc has picked Alcan Inc.’ s Cynthia Carroll as chief executive officer, the first time in the mining company’s 89- year history it will be headed by an outsider and a woman. Ms. Carroll, 49, is currently president of Alcan’s primary metal group and will take up the post at Anglo, the world’s second- biggest mining company, on March 1. Tony Trahar is due to step down in April.
