Court approves $1B package for recipients of tainted blood

ALBERTA

-

Canadians infected with hepatitis C from tainted blood transfusions wel- comed court rulings Friday that clear the way for a national $1 billion compensation package. The court approvals are one of the final steps before more than 6,000 “forgotten victims” across Canada can collect compensation payments. The package is for people who weren’t eligible under an earlier, $1.1-billion package that was restricted to those who received contaminated blood between 1986 and mid-1990.
