We can send home U.S. troops, PM says

IRAQ

-

Iraq’s Prime Minister Nouri alMaliki raised the possibility yesterday that his country will ask U.S. troops to go home when their UN mandate to stay in Iraq expires at the end of the year. He made the comment after weeks of complaints from Shia Muslim lawmakers that U.S. proposals for a continued troop presence would infringe on Iraq’s sovereignty. “The Iraqi government, if it wants, has the right to demand that the UN terminate the presence of international forces on Iraqi sovereign soil,” he said.
