Dozens charged in ByWard Market-area drug blitz
Ottawa police charged 39 people and issued 161 offences related to alleged crack cocaine dealing during a blitz in the ByWard Market area this month. Police said the enforcement campaign was conducted during the first two weeks of June to deal with a “surge” of increased drug trafficking during the summer. In one incident, a man tried to rob an undercover officer, according to police. Thomas Breen, 23, is in custody and has been charged with at- tempted robbery, trafficking crack cocaine and numerous breaches of recognizance, police said. In another incident, officers were near Cumberland and York Streets when they say they witnessed an assault. Upon further investigation, police found that a man had allegedly been knocked to the ground and robbed of $60. Sonny Mould, a 31-year-old woman, was arrested and charged with robbery. She also remains in custody, police said.
