Canadian junior open with victory
The Canadian men’s team is off to a winning start in the world junior curling championships at Osterlund, Sweden.
The foursome, skipped by Edmonton’s Brendan Bottcher, scored five points in the sixth end on the way to an 8-4 win against China.
In another game, defendingchampion Sweden carved out what appeared to be a surprisingly easy 9-2 win against Norway.
Meanwhile, the United States coasted past Italy 9-4, Scotland topped Finland 7-3 win and Switzerland defeated the Czech Republic 9-4.
The Canadian women, skipped by Alberta’s Jocelyn Peterman, finished Day 1 with a win and a loss.
Peterman lost 10-3 to the Czech Republic, but rebounded with a 7-5 win over Scotland.
The Czechs, Russia and Sweden were 2-0 in the women’s division.
Canada, Japan, Scotland and Switzerland were 1-1, while Italy, Norway and the United States were 0-2.
