Dubreuil, Hanly skate to medals
Laurent Dubreuil of Lévis, Que., was crowned 500-metre champion and Calgary’s Kate Hanly took the bronze medal in the 1,000 metres of the Essent ISU world junior speedskating championships at the Meiji Hokkaido Tokachi Oval in Obihiro, Japan. Dubreuil won the event on both Friday and Saturday and had a combined time of 71.12 seconds, 0.65 better than Tsubasas Hasegawa of Japan. Alexandre Déry of Lévis, Que., was 20th in 77.16. Hanly had a time of 1:18.82 in the 1,000 metres, behind Japan’s Miho Takagi (1:17.69) and the Czech Republic’s Karolina Erbanova (1:18.14).
