PETA names Harb top Canadian of 2012
An animal rights group has named Senator Mac Harb its Canadian of the Year. The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, or PETA, said in a release Wednesday that it chose Harb for the honour because of his efforts to pass legislation banning the commercial seal hunt. Harb’s Bill S-210, which would phase out the hunt, has passed second reading in the Senate. The group said that achievement has ensured that “the debate will continue” on the issue and lauded Harb’s “tireless efforts.” PETA will present the award in Harb’s Parliament Hill office on Thursday.
