Electricity slowly restored in Quebec
About 1,500 of the tens of thousands of Hydro-Québec customers who lost power when lines were damaged in last Friday’s snowstorm were still without power Wednesday night.
About 500 of those were in the Outaouais, Hydro-Québec spokesman Eric Moisan said.
In total, 110,000 customers lost their electricity because of the snowstorm that hit the province hard last Friday.
Lines were broken or damaged by heavy snowfall and fallen tree branches in difficult-to-access rural areas. Many utility poles were also damaged. ore than 800 HydroQuébec workers were using snowshoes and snowmobiles to restore power to the rural areas, a spokeswoman said. On Monday, Ottawa Hydro workers helped restore power to residents in Chelsea.
