Elec­tric­ity slowly re­stored in Que­bec

About 1,500 of the tens of thou­sands of Hy­dro-Québec cus­tomers who lost power when lines were dam­aged in last Fri­day’s snow­storm were still with­out power Wed­nes­day night.

About 500 of those were in the Ou­taouais, Hy­dro-Québec spokesman Eric Moisan said.

In to­tal, 110,000 cus­tomers lost their elec­tric­ity be­cause of the snow­storm that hit the province hard last Fri­day.

Lines were bro­ken or dam­aged by heavy snowfall and fallen tree branches in dif­fi­cult-to-ac­cess ru­ral ar­eas. Many util­ity poles were also dam­aged. ore than 800 Hy­droQuébec work­ers were us­ing snow­shoes and snow­mo­biles to re­store power to the ru­ral ar­eas, a spokes­woman said. On Mon­day, Ot­tawa Hy­dro work­ers helped re­store power to res­i­dents in Chelsea.
