Cou­ple as­saulted in casino ho­tel room

A cou­ple en­joy­ing Box­ing Day in their ho­tel room at the Lac Leamy casino were as­saulted when an armed in­truder en­tered their 18th-floor room.

Gatineau po­lice said they re­sponded to the call from the ho­tel guest about 12:45 p.m.

The 60-year-old man said he had been as­saulted in the room. The per­pe­tra­tor was still there, he said, and was ag­gres­sive. The man and his 59-year-old wife man­aged to es­cape from the room, but the in­truder stayed.

Po­lice ar­rived and ne­go­ti­ated with the in­truder for about four hours. They fi­nally were able to ar­rest the sus­pect with­out ma­jor in­ci­dent.

The sus­pect, de­scribed by po­lice as a “young man” was taken to hospi­tal in Gatineau for psy­chi­atric as­sess­ment.

Po­lice said he could face charges of as­sault with a weapon, as­sault caus­ing bod­ily harm, as­sault, break and en­ter and mis­chief.

The cou­ple were treated for mi­nor in­juries at the scene.
