Make it a marathon day

- LINDSEY WARD

’Tis the season of marathons. And repeats. And more marathons.

Five years ago I recall watching a Diners, Driveins and Dives marathon; I’ve never been able to look at a cheeseburger the same way.

Yes, marathons are over the top, and exhausting — but that’s why they’re called marathons. Here’s a look at some of the shows that are going for the long haul on Thursday.

❚ Mountain Men: If living simply off the land means trying not to get crushed in an avalanche and competing for dinner against grizzly bears, then is it really all that simple? No, but it’s interesting to watch. (10 a.m., History (two hours) & 5 p.m. (six hours.)

❚ Millionaire Matchmaker: Patti Stanger is no stranger to hookups, as you’ll see in this reality show that melds the promise of The Bachelor with the raunchiness of Blind Date. (Noon, Slice)

❚ Continuum: Three hours does not a marathon make, but here’s your chance to catch up on a Canadian-made sci-fi series that’s making a splash. (7 p.m., Showcase)

❚ Inked: Remember that other show about a tattoo parlour — the one that’s not Miami Ink? Here’s a four-hour refresher. (Noon, MuchMoreMusic)

❚ The Liquidator: Yet another chance to catch up on a homegrown series that’s making waves elsewhere (mainly Europe). (9 a.m., OLN)

Perfectly coiffed housewives aren’t just for Mad Men anymore; the TLC special Wives With Beehives profiles four women whose clothes, home decor and stay-at-home values are straight out of the 1950s. (10 p.m., TLC)

Thelma and Louise they ain’t, but Jessica Tandy and Bridget Fonda still manage to get in some solid girl time in Deepa Mehta’s road trip drama Camilla (1994). (8 p.m., CTV)

Repeat alert! Big Bang Theory features an episode titled The Higgs Boson Observation, in which Leonard benefits from Sheldon hiring a hot female assistant. (8 p.m., CBS)
