Unnecessary hurdles
Re: Senator questions chief’s strategy, Dec. 27.
As ultimatums are not the way to start a discourse that may eventually necessitate some form of mutual agreement, Attawapiskat First Nation Chief Theresa Spence is creating unnecessary hurdles with her insistence to meet only with Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Governor General David Johnston.
Her refusal to meet with the minister of aboriginal affairs and Senator Patrick Brazeau while making time to meet with NDP leader Thomas Mulcair, along with contenders for the Liberal leadership, only serves to undermine the significance of her objectives.
If Chief Spence is really serious about establishing a meaningful dialogue, she may wish to consider the merits of offers at bridge-building rather than pursue tactics that simply create futile fences.
