Woman severely burned in condo grease fire

-

A 36-year-old woman was in hospital Monday with first- and seconddegree burns after she tried to put out a grease fire in her kitchen on Sunday night. Emergency crews arrived at 43 Waterbridge Dr. in south Ottawa, near Prince of Wales Drive, after neighbours called 911 to report smoke coming out of the eight-unit, two-storey condo block. The fire started in the kitchen of a ground level unit, and most of the fire damage was contained there, but Ottawa Fire Services said there was “extensive smoke damage” throughout the unit. The woman, who was also treated for smoke inhalation, is in the care of victim’s assistance until she can find another place to live.
