Police arrest suspect in downtown washroom voyeurism

-

Ottawa police have arrested a man suspected of following women into public washrooms to watch them while they use the facilities. No charges have been laid, but police are continuing their investigation, the Citizen has learned. The man is also thought to have hidden inside various Centretown washrooms to wait for unsuspecting women to enter. The voyeurism incidents occurred from Jan. 3 to Jan. 17 and caused one Centretown office building to add security guards to patrol floors and stairwells more often. Two cases of a man in a women’s washroom were reported at the Sun Life Financial Centre building at 99 Bank St. An email previously obtained by the Citizen was sent to staff by the property manager on Jan. 18 to warn women about the two incidents. “Please rest assured that we are taking these incidents very seriously and are actively investigating the matter,” the email stated, adding that police had been notified.
