GEE-GEES 4,

RAVENS 3

The Ottawa Gee-Gees got away with one Friday, and saved their season in the process — for now anyway.

Despite providing the Carleton Ravens with eight power plays, the Gee-Gees came back from a 3-1 second-period deficit to defeat the Ravens 4-3 at the U of O Sports Complex to even their Ontario University Athletics Eastern Conference semifinal series 1-1.

The deciding game is Sunday night at the Carleton Ice House.

After the Gee-Gees killed off a fiveon-three for more than a minute and an additional two-plus minutes of five-on-four, Jean Bernard Voyer broke a 3-3 tie with a breakaway goal, slipping the puck through the legs of Carleton goaltender Ryan Dube with less than eight minutes to play.

“Our PK did the job, our goalie did the job and saved our season,” GeeGees coach Real Paiement said.

“When your back is to the wall, you do what you have to do. What we didn’t have to do was take those penalties the way we did, but we got away and now we have to move on and get ready for Sunday.”

Former Gatineau Olympique Alexandre Touchette tied the game for the Gee-Gees at 1:19 of the third after Guillaume Donavan pulled the Gee-Gees to within a goal at 3-2 in the final minute of the second period.

Jean Sebastien Fournier also scored for the Gee-Gees while Linden Bahm, Mitchell Porowski, another former Olympique, and Joe Pleckaitis, a former Ottawa 67, scored for the Ravens.

“In a lot of games if you don’t score on a five-on-three that usually haunts you,” Ravens coach Marty Johnston said.

In women’s hockey, the Ravens’ season came to an end Friday as they fell 3-1 on home ice to the McGill Martlets, who won the best-of-three RSEG semifinal 2-0. They were 9-0 winners in Montreal Wednesday.
