OTTAWA RENEWABLE ENERGY COOPERATIVE (OREC) JOINS COMMUNITY POWER FEDERATION TO SOLVE ONTARIO’S GREEN ENERGY STRUGGLE

Community participation in renewable energy projects could smooth the way for green energy in Ontario, and “community power” groups - including the Ottawa Renewable Energy Cooperative (OREC)- have formed a new Federation to help make it happen.

Here in the Ottawa, the Ottawa Renewable Energy Cooperative (OREC) has been working hard to engage local residents in renewable energy. Over the last year OREC has grown in membership to over 100 members, and is proceeding to invest in its first set of solar projects on several Housing Cooperatives. OREC is in negotiations with several organizations to build new facilities in the coming year.

Beyond helping with project development, the Federation will also give co-ops a common voice in dealing with government and private developers.
