Cut-a-thon revenue all goes to Parkinson help
Ottawa area hair salons are encouraged to join in Parkinson Society Ottawa’s coming CutA-Thon.
“The Cut-A-Thon is an opportunity for Ottawa’s top salons to gain public exposure, showcasing the salon’s community work during April Awareness month,” says Alan Muir, special events and community engagement manager, Parkinson Society Ottawa.
“It also helps them increase their clientele, especially for new stylists,” he says, “and they are helping people with Parkinson’s in their community.”
“We’ve been so grateful for the support that our salons and sponsor Joico give us for this event,” says Dennise Taylor-Gilhen, CEO, Parkinson Society Ottawa. “Everything is donated — so that means all of the proceeds come back to helping people living with Parkinson’s. And it’s a great deal for our participants, too, and so everyone wins.”
Here’s how it works: Stylists donate their time and talent on Sunday, April 7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Customers pay $40 which includes a wash, cut and style. “The participating salons would typically charge more than that,” says Muir, “and so it’s enticing to clients.”
Prior to the event, the Parkinson Society Ottawa will book all appointments. Customers choose their salon and book their appointment and pay online at cutathon.ca.
“It’s very easy. If they prefer, customers can call the PSO office at 613-722-9238 and we’ll book the appointment for them.”
On event day, Parkinson Society Ottawa will provide a T-shirt for each stylist, a receptionist and student assistant, valuable gift packages from Joico Professionals for the stylists and clients, and take photos of the experience.
After the event, salons are presented with a plaque to thank them, and their participation will be recognized in the Society newsletter, website and other media.
