Help with the success of community events, and beyond:
The Canadian Diabetes Association is looking to fill some important volunteer positions. They need enthusiastic volunteers to be part of the water station during Ottawa Race Weekend and the Alive to Strive Race. You’ll be working outside, so be prepared! Help seniors to grow their interest in gardening:
Canadian Organic Growers, Ottawa St. Lawrence Outaouais Chapter, needs a seniors’ organic gardening co-ordinator. You’ll lead the day-to-day activities of senior organic gardeners with seniors in retirement homes and in the community in organizing workshops, planting, weeding, watering and harvesting, along with harvesting the bounty in the autumn. You will be the contact with retirement homes and a local volunteer contact. You should have experience gardening, and some knowledge of organic gardening, communicate well with seniors and have experience working with them. Strong organizational skills, technical skills and skills in communication/reporting are needed. Access to a vehicle is essential, and an interest in culinary arts, horticultural therapy and ergonomic tools would be assets. The Western Ottawa Community Resource Centre partners with others to develop, provide and co-ordinate accessible community, health and social services for all members of our diverse communities. An opportunity to help and learn:
Volunteer Ottawa offers education workshops on all aspects of volunteerism to volunteers and organizations alike through a series of workshops at the Coventry Road location. Volunteers are needed to help with setup and cleanup, set out refreshments and some administrative help (photocopying materials and taking participant registrations). Technical skills include setting up the projector and helping with prepared PowerPoint slide shows and demonstrating our website.
