Fighting cancer, one riff at a time

-

Some top area bands will take to the stage on April 6 in a Music for Life fundraising concert to battle cancer.

The concert takes place at the Hearth & Crown Pub on Preston Street and features sets by Home of Your Own, Keeping Six, Three Times Lucky, Wicked Grin and WeSurrender. The event will be hosted by radio personalities Dylan Black and Sandy Sharkey.

The Music for Life concerts were founded in 2006 by Rose Carty who wanted to do something to fight cancer after losing several friends and family members to the disease.

“When I first founded Music for Life Fundraising Concerts, I had a vision to bring fundraising and live music together; to help raise funds to one day eradicate cancer, while bringing awareness to various types of cancer,” said Carty. “This event is in support of The Ottawa Hospital Foundation for patient care or needed equipment for ovarian and testicular cancers.”

The Saturday event will support the Ottawa Hospital Foundation.

As an added bonus, “a special friend of the organization is going to be Getting Buzzed for a Cure and cutting his hair for cancer at the event — guests are definitely in for a treat!”

Originally an Ottawa-based nonprofit, the organization has now put on benefit concerts across Ontario and Quebec to help raise money and awareness towards two specific cancers, chosen at the beginning of every year.

Proceeds go toward local cancer or hospital foundations that support the focused cancers of the year. As well, the concerts also provide a venue for local artists and entertainers to donate their time and talents within their communities.

The concert begins at 5 p.m. For tickets, more information or to donate to the foundation, please visit us online at http://ohfoundation.ca/ our-events/music-life-fundraisingconcerts.
