WordCamp coming to Ottawa April 27

-

Open to all, content galore, community shared.

These are the tenets of WordCamps, the casual, locally-organized conferences focusing on everything related to WordPress, the Internet’s most powerful blogging system. Since its release in 2003, WordPress has been downloaded over 65 million times, and has become one of the world’s most popular pieces of publishing software thanks to its focus on ease of use, speed and a great user experience.

Ottawa’s first WordCamp will be held at the University of Ottawa on Saturday, April 27. Each WordCamp is a little different, but they all share a similar goal: to provide an opportunity for people to come together and discuss their common interest in WordPress, to learn from each other, to network, and to have a great time doing it. Everyone from casual users to core developers participate, share ideas, and get to know each other.

The content of sessions is firmly focused on using and developing for WordPress. Issues around blogging, business, and social media that are related to WordPress use may be included, but the bulk of the program (at least 80 per cent) is specifically about Word Press.

WordCamps are not meant to be big, fancy, expensive conferences. WordCamps are meant to be low-key local gatherings that are affordable — cheap, even — to allow people from all walks of life to attend, meet, share, and learn.

An “Introduction to WordPress” precamp session will be held on Thursday, April 25. The pre-camp will offer participants the chance to learn about what WordPress is, see who uses it, and get acquainted with the WordPress dashboard.

WordCamp Ottawa 2013 will run three tracks of presentations: “Content Creators,” “Site Creators” and “Code Creators.”

Tickets for WordCamp Ottawa 2013 are $23 per person for WordCamp only, or $28 for WordCamp and the pre-camp WordPress intro session. For more information visit http://2013.ottawa.wordcamp.org/.

WordCamp Ottawa is being organized by members of the Ottawa WordPress Group. WordPress users from Ottawa and surrounding area get together once a month to hear a presentation about WordPress, share information and resources, and have a bit of fun. Everyone is welcome! Visit http://wpottawa.org.
