Summer temperature control

- ANITA MURRAY

If you’re looking for ways to stay either warm or cool this summer, Lee Valley offers some new options.

To beat the heat, try the Coolaroo Shade Sails, a relatively new option for both protection and privacy in funky configurations. Made of durable polyethylene fabric, they block 90 per cent of the sun’s rays yet let wind and rain pass through. They start at $89.

If you’re looking more to keep warm on cool nights, Infrared Quartz Heaters, like those often used on restaurant patios and at sports stadiums, offer great heat-transfer efficiency through radiant heat. A low-profile model (10 centimetres high by 39 cm long for $289) heats an area about 2.5 by three metres. It also comes in a slightly larger size. For details, visit leevalley.com.
