Stencil and glass-etching acid can hide mark on shower glass

-

I have a problem with a cloudy stain or film on the inside glass of my shower stall. I’ve tried Windex, vinegar, razor-blade scraper, CLR, Mr. Clean Magic Eraser and none of them have helped. If I run my hand over the glass, I can’t detect a difference in texture between the cloudy part and the clear part.

Here is a coverup solution that will cost only a few dollars. Head to a craft store and buy glass-etching acid, painter’s tape, an artist paint brush and the stencil of your choice, such as wavy lines, flowers or birds.

Thoroughly clean the shower glass and let dry. Place the stencil over the affected area and adhere by placing the tape along the vertical and horizontal edges, overlapping the ends. Make sure the stencil is flat against the glass to avoid any leakage.

Put on a pair of gloves, and handle the acid with care. Using the brush, apply the acid onto the stencil design. Let the acid set for as long as recommended on the product label, then rinse. With a little hard work and patience, your shower stall will look fantastic. Search YouTube for some helpful videos on etching. Do you have any solutions to whiten the yellowing plastic trim

pieces on kitchen appliances?

Wearing gloves, pour 500 millilitres of three-per-cent hydrogen peroxide into an ice cream bucket (a stronger concentration such as 10 to 15 per cent would be even more effective but test on an inconspicuous area first). Add one teaspoon of a laundry booster, such as OxiClean, and mix.

Sponge the solution onto the appliance and give it a good scrub. Rinse with dish soap and water.

If the yellow remains, try using Retr0bright gel. Instructions for making it are available at Retr0bright.wikispaces.com/Retr0Bright+Gel. I enjoy your questions and tips. Keep them coming. Missed a column? Can’t remember a solution? Check out my website at reena.ca.
