Diane Dolan beat the heat and everyone else on the course to win the Ottawa Valley Golf Association women’s city and district championship on Tuesday.

Now playing out of the Casselview club, Dolan, who had finished second and tied for second in the past two years, shot a 5-over-par 77 at Outaouais for a total of 149 and a three-stroke victory over 205 over Carleton’s Lise Jubinville (75).

Dolan had won the Ahearn Trophy as city and district champion twice previously, but the first time was in 1979, when she was 24, and the second was in 1990.

She opened with a 1-over 72 at Prescott on Monday, giving her a five-stroke advantage at the start of play Tuesday.

“I wasn’t hitting the ball well (Tuesday),” said Dolan, who finished second in the Quebec senior championship earlier this month, “but I have a strong mental game and I just stayed in the moment.”

Dolan walked the South and West nines at Outaouais despite the stifling heat.

“It maybe wasn’t that smart, but I like to walk,” she said. “It helps me to stay in the game.”

Cedarhill’s Kristin Ranieri (75) was third at 155, two strokes ahead of Rivermead’s Pamela Fraser (79).

Defending champion Susan Pearl of Rideau View (82–162) finished seventh.

Monica Bialik of Rideau View won the Rose Bowl for top spot in Division 2 for higher handicaps.

She added a second-round 86 for a total of 176, seven strokes ahead of both Dianne Korim (90) of Outaouais and Susan Gillean (90) of HautesPlaines.
