Ten to watch in the 142nd Open Championship

- Cam Cole, Postmedia News

Jason Day: May not pull the driver out of his bag, and long enough to get away with it. Has been oh, so close in majors. Ready to win one.

Adam Scott: Getting better and better at links golf, last year’s tragic runner-up now has a green jacket to console him, and lots of confidence.

Ian Poulter: Just tell him it’s the Ryder Cup, and look out. Great putter, great competitor. Major’s going to come one of these days.

Ernie Els: Good vibes here from 2002, and as defending champ, still has enough game to get it around on a familiar track.

Graeme McDowell: Either boom or bust for this guy, but he almost got it done last year and might have another major in him.

Tiger Woods: This drought can’t go on forever. If not for the monsoon, he might have won here in 2002. Likes links, likes the course. Maybe ... Charl Schwartzel/Louis Oosthuizen (entry): Longtime buddies from South Africa, gorgeous golf swings, major winners. Pick one.

Brandt Snedeker: Near miss a year ago, plenty of game, and game’s on the upswing. Fast player, too (for you kids out there).

Phil Mickelson: The King of Overthinkers is coming off a links win at the Scottish Open, maybe he’s finally figuring it out.

Sergio Garcia: Crazy, I know, given his history of swallowing the tennis ball, but surely he’ll win a major before he’s done. Surely.
