Guess Who, Kira Isabella to play 150th Carp Fair

-

The Carp Fair is celebrating its 150th anniversary this fall with a concert by classic Canadian rockers The Guess Who.

The band, whose current lineup does not include Burton Cummings and Randy Bachman, will perform Sunday afternoon Sept. 29 for the price of admission to the fair — $10 for adults and $5 for kids age six to 12. The Carp Arena can hold only 1,800 people, so attendance at the concert will be first come, first served. “I suggest people get here early,” said the fair’s general manager Joyce Trafford.

The fair has traditionally hosted classic Canadian rock bands such as Trooper, April Wine and Chilliwack on its closing day. Organizers are delighted to land The Guess Who for the 150th anniversary. “Well, they’ve been going for quite a few years, too,” notes Trafford.

The band came out of Winnipeg in the 1960s and scored international success with songs such as These Eyes, No Time, and American Woman. They broke up in 1975 but have performed in various incarnations since.

Other performers at the fair, which runs Sept. 26-29 at the Carp Fairgrounds:

Sept. 26: Area country singer Gail Gavan & The Ryan Brothers and Kyle Felhaver. Free with Thursday toonie gate admission

Sept. 27: Country singer-songwriters Jason Blaine and Deric Ruttan. $35

Sept. 28: Free (with fair admission) afternoon show by Marty Haggard, son of country legend Merle, with Auction Barn Jamboree Band. Evening performance by rising local country singer Kira Isabella. $30
