Ottawa man sentenced to 3 years for child porn

-

A 23-year-old Ottawa man was sentenced to three years in jail for sharing “the most vile, disgusting and depraved” collection of child pornography with others, a judge ruled Thursday afternoon. Police found thousands of images and 250 videos organized on Michel Desormeaux’s computer by age and type, including bondage and incest. “He did take some care and effort to look after the collection,” Justice Jack Nadelle said during the sentencing. “He acknowledged that he kept the most vile files for trading.” A sexual behaviour assessment report confirmed Desormeaux’s claim that while he had a wide range of child pornography, his preference was for teenage girls. He used his vast and varied collection, including pornography of toddlers as young as 18 months old, to trade for images that suited his desires, Nadelle said. “There has been little, if any, remorse expressed,” Nadelle said. “The victims are innocent children who became props in a show.” While initially co-operative when police searched his east-end home in September 2012, Desormeaux was “less forthright” during a sexual behaviour assessment and tried to renege on an agreed statement of facts, Nadelle said. He claimed that a 17-year-old girl sent him a zip file that included child pornography and that he deleted all images but those of girls aged 16 to 18. Police also found an unlicensed gun in Desormeaux’s home. Desormeaux has been in custody since his arrest nearly a year ago. Nadelle gave him a 1.5 credit for the 90 days he spent in protective custody. His remaining sentence is 23 months.
