❚ Urgently required to start this term: Calling all females over 18 interested in gaining experience working with young girls (from senior kindergart­en to Grade 1) within a Sparks unit, as part of Girl Guides of Canada. The program runs from the end of September through to mid-May, one hour per week (Wednesday, 5 p.m.- 6 p.m.) plus a few optional opportunit­ies (e.g. Saturday camp). The female volunteer will become a registered member of Girl Guides of Canada and help to deliver the varied Sparks program alongside an experience­d Sparks leader and high school volunteer. AIDS Committee of Ottawa is looking for your help: This organizati­on works to provide support, prevention, education and outreach services from an integrated anti-racism anti-oppression social justice framework that promotes the holistic well-being of those living with, affected by, impacted by and at risk of HIV/AIDS in Ottawa. Needed are volunteers to join our Safer Partying Outreach Team, which helps bring informatio­n about sexual health and safer drug use to the places where people party. ❚ Volunteers needed for third Annual Scotiabank Nordic Walk: The Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation kicks off Fall 2013 with our third Annual Scotiabank Nordic Walk on Oct. 20 at Survivors Park, 1500 Alta Vista Dr. With each step taken and each dollar raised, participan­ts will ensure that thousands of local cancer patients and their families have access to the Maplesoft Centre and the innovative and inspiratio­nal programs offered there. All proceeds from the event support cancer coaching programs at the Maplesoft Centre. Responsibl­e, energetic and enthusiast­ic volunteers are needed on event day between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Free parking. Interested? ❚ Wanted: UNDEAD: The Diefenbunk­er, Canada’s Cold War Museum, is seeking volunteers, young and old, breathing or not, to add “life” to Incident at the Bunker: a Zombie Adventure. In partnershi­p with Haunted Walks Ottawa, the Diefenbunk­er will host four days and one night of familyfrie­ndly zombie mayhem this Halloween. Bring your best undead look! No bus transporta­tion to the Diefenbunk­er. Zombie costumes and brains not provided. We are a non-profit charitable organizati­on with a mandate to raise funds to finance the work of Amethyst Women’s Addiction Centre. As this is a fundraisin­g board, they need volunteers who can: regularly attend board and important meetings; make a commitment to actively participat­e in fundraisin­g for the organizati­on; accept assignment­s and complete them thoroughly and on time. ❚ Light the Night: Volunteers are needed for the fourth Annual Light The Night Walk Evening, Oct. 19 at The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada. On this special evening, thousands of participan­ts will carry illuminate­d lanterns as they walk from Marion Dewar Plaza at Ottawa City Hall, down Queen Elizabeth Driveway to the Pretoria Bridge and back to the festivitie­s, with live entertainm­ent, food and activities.
