Vibrant, eclectic Sandy Hill

-

As a resident of Sandy Hill, I was both thankful and saddened to read this story and related article on bylaw complaints. I love the area. I moved my young family here to be close to an excellent francophone school, among other young families, surrounded by beautiful parks, between the Rideau Canal and Rideau River within walking distance to the market, in a vibrant, eclectic, mixed-use urban neighbourhood.

We knew there would be some noise caused by students, some properties wanting for maintenance. But what we never expected was the total lack of respect demonstrated by some students and landlords, and the obstacles we would face as taxpayers to get the city to support us and do its job.

Thanks to Derek Spalding for confirming my suspicions that the city does not collect data on inspections from complaints or compliance with violation orders. In this era of increased accountability and transparency, how is this still possible?
