Greely native played previously with Kitchener, London

Seeking defensive reinforcements, the Ottawa 67’s acquired 17-year-old Owen Stewart of Greely in a trade on Monday.

In return, the 67’s sent a 15thround draft pick in 2015 to the London Knights.

Stewart was drafted by the Kitchener Rangers in the sixth round in 2011 and played 33 games for that Ontario Hockey League team last season. He had two goals and one assist, including a goal against the 67’s at Canadian Tire Centre in a game on Oct. 14, 2012.

He was claimed off waivers by the Knights in September and played three games so far this season, collecting no points and one minor penalty.

“With injuries to our defencemen over the past month, we needed help on our blue-line,” 67’s general manager and coach Chris Byrne said in a media release from the team.

The 67’s (5-8-0) will be in Peterborough to play the Petes Thursday night. Their next home game is Oct. 29 against the Kingston Frontenacs.
