Gatineau Rapibus, car collide on transitway

-

The first day Gatineau’s Rapibus system was running during rush hour, on Monday morning, five people were taken to hospital after a bus and a vehicle collided. The crash happened around 6:10 a.m. at the transitway and Breadner Street. Police said the 22-year-old driver of the vehicle was heading east on Breadner Street when he failed to stop at a red light. Five of the 35 bus passengers were injured after the bus struck the car, police said. The five passengers were taken to hospital as a precaution, police said. The driver of the car was not injured. He was given a ticket under the Quebec Highway Safety Code for running a red light, a $161 fine and three demerit points. Police said the red light at the intersection of Breadner Street and the transitway has been in place for more than a year to help drivers to get used to it before the Rapibus was launched on Saturday.
