Ottawa man arrested after violent Gatineau home invasion

A 19-year-old Ottawa man faces charges after a violent home invasion early Monday morning in Gatineau. Police said a suspect broke into the home on Notre-Dame-del’Île Street around 4:30 a.m. Once the suspect was inside the home, he was confronted by two residents. When a fight broke out with the suspect, one of the residents was struck on the stomach and head with a “sharp object.” Police would not way what weapon was used in the assault. The victim was taken to hospital but has since been released. By the time police arrived at the home, the residents had the suspect on the ground. A 19-year-old man is charged with assault with a weapon causing bodily harm and break and enter. His name has not been released.
