Some musical high notes

On the NAC stage: In November 1969 Cantata Singers became the first choir to perform with NACO. The choir has performed with the NACO every season since that year.

Messiah: Starting in 1970, the choir has performed this work at the NAC in 29 of its 50 years. This year’s performanc­es are the 57th and 58th, respective­ly (most years the choir did two performanc­es).

Carnegie Hall: In October 1980, Cantata performed Orfeo ed Eurydice at Carnegie Hall with the NACO and soloist Marilyn Horne.

Appearance­s at major music festivals: In 1976 Cantata Singers performed at the Guelph Spring Festival; in 1989, at the Internatio­nal Choral Festival in Toronto; and in 2011 and 2012, at Festival de Lanaudiere in Quebec. The choir won a special prize in the CBC National Radio Competitio­n for Amateur

Tours: Performanc­es in the Ottawa Valley, southern Ontario, the Maritimes, Southern Manitoba, Montreal, Hong Kong, Taiwan, The Netherland­s, Austria, Hungary and Italy.

National Events: Highlights include Her Majesty’s Silver Jubilee visit to Parliament Hill in 1977; the installati­on of two governors general, Ed Schreyer and Jeanne Sauvé; singing for July 1 morning ceremonies on Parliament Hill; the first performanc­e of the new O Canada on July 1, 1980; and performanc­e at the 2010 Olympic Torch Relay on Parliament Hill.

Recordings: The choir has been recorded for broadcast by the CBC numerous times. The choir’s recording of O Canada was used by CBC for many years at the end of its broadcast day.
