Smiles On Us Day: United Way Ottawa is working with a group of dentists and partner agencies who offer free dental care for families in need on Smiles on Us Day (Dec. 21). There is an ambitious plan to treat up to more than 250 people. Needed are 10 volunteer drivers to work shifts for the day to drive minivans for transporti­ng clients. Interested volunteers should be at least 25, with no driving infraction­s. Bruce House is a community-based organizati­on providing housing, compassion­ate care and support in Ottawa for people living with HIV and AIDS. Shifts: Friday morning 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday afternoon 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Experience: Comfortabl­e answering telephones and working in an environmen­t with people who have mental health and/ or addictions issues. The Caring and Sharing

Exchange, an organizati­on providing help to families and individual­s in need at Christmas, is looking for volunteers on Dec. 6 to help collect donations in the mall during the annual Christmas Cheer Broadcast at the Rideau Centre. Shifts are 9 a.m. to noon, noon to 3 p.m. or 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Volunteers are also needed in November and December to call clients with their appointmen­ts to pick up toys from the Toy Centre. Bilingual and ability to speak other languages is an asset. Due to handling of confidenti­al informatio­n, volunteers must be 18 and older and sign a confidenti­ality agreement.
