SEOUL Kia had its flagship car on display recently — when it arrives in Canada it will be badged as the K900. It is a full-sized luxury car that sits above the recently released Cadenza.

Based on the rear-drive Hyundai Equus platform (it has a long 3,045-millimetre wheelbase and limo-like rear seat legroom), the K900 is differentiated from its sibling by its tuning. In this case, the suspension, steering and engine are all set up to emphasize its sporty yet luxurious nature.

It will also bring nine new technologies to Kia Canada. Among them are a smart cruise control system with a full-on stop-start function (when set, if the car ahead stops, the K900 does likewise and when things start moving again, it does, too), then there’s the 9.2-inch iPad-like navigation screen, twin rear-seat entertainment screens and a truly swanky set of gauges.

The 12.3-inch TFT LCD cluster places the speedometer to the left and allows just about anything the driver wants to displayed on the right.

The K900 also features active LED-based headlights (eight LED units in each headlight) and a new heads-up display. The latter features a full-colour readout.

Finally, there’s an around-car camera system that stitches the view from a variety of cameras into a single image that provides a bird’s-eye view of the car’s surroundings.

If, from all of this, you gather the Kia K900 is aimed squarely at the likes of the BMW 7 Series or Mercedes-Benz S-Class, well, you’d be right on the money.
