Celebrating Fiat’s past

1957 Edition marks 57th anniversary of the Nuova

- NICK TRAGIANIS

Fiat is marking the 57th anniversary of the pint-sized 500 with an all-new limited edition teeming with retro goodness.

Though it is based on the top-line 500 Lounge, the 1957 Edition is a throwback to the original 1957 Fiat 500 ‘Nuova’. It sports a number of vintage cues, most notably 16-inch body-colour alloy wheels with chrome accents, and a white roof and mirror caps. Coupled with historic Fiat emblems from the original 500 and your choice of three eyepopping body colours, you’ll want to constantly pinch this Cinquicento’s cheeks because it’s so darn adorable.

The retro touches continue inside with an ivory interior, accented with brown leather seats and white stitching. Grey door panels add to the contrast, while the armrest and shift boot (if you opt for the manual transmission) match the seats. Although a sport suspension is standard, the 1957 Edition can’t be had in Abarth flavour; it is powered by the base 1.4-litre MultiAir engine, good for 101 horsepower. A fivespeed manual and a six-speed automatic are the optional gearboxes, and like every other modern-day 500, the 1957 Edition comes standard with a Sport button that helps sharpen throttle response.

Pricing for the mind-bogglingly adorable Fiat 500 1957 Edition will be announced closer to when it launches early next year.
