Seaside luxury in the South Pacific

-

Tourism is Fiji’s biggest industry, and the South Pacific country features a wide range of accommodations at every price point. Here are some of the high-end options available: Castaway Island Resort: Located on Castaway Island, this four-star resort is one of Fiji’s first. Many guests, primarily from Australia and New Zealand, return every year, so advance booking is a must. Accommodation consists of 67 private bures, simple houses with thatched roofs that are comfortable, air-conditioned and decorated with traditional Fijian styles. Many of them are on the private island’s beach; those that aren’t are only a few steps away. Scuba divers can take advantage of Castaway’s excellent dive centre and the many fantastic dive sites that are mere minutes away. (castawayfiji.com)

Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort: Winner of multiple awards and much critical acclaim, this five-star, boutique resort offers subtle luxury while priding itself on its green practices and contributions to the local community. Its spacious bures are made from by local craftsmen and are modelled after a traditional Fijian village. Both a family and couples resort, yet the twain rarely mix. It’s especially popular with scuba divers thanks to the presence of l’Aventure, a dive operation led by explorer Jean-Michel Cousteau, son of Jacques Cousteau. (fijiresort.com)

Koro Sun Resort And

Rainforest Spa: Located on Fiji’s second-largest island, Vanua Levu, which is often called Fiji’s hidden paradise, the Koro Sun Resort offers the perfect blend of romance for couples and activity for families. It’s also very good at keeping the two mutually exclusive. Their must-visit Rainforest Spa is nestled in the heart of a rainforest above a rushing stream. The all-inclusive, four-star resort features garden or seaside bures as well as private villas. Finishing touches are being completed on their edgewater bures, which have balconies that jut out over the sea. (korosunresort.com) Liku-Liku Lagoon Resort: This luxury, adults-only, fivestar resort is the only one in Fiji to feature over-water bures, the sort that Tahiti is famous for. It shares a small island with another family-oriented resort and can be reached by boat, seaplane or helicopter. There are also bures on the beach from which you can snorkel to a reef just metres offshore. The resort has only one restaurant, but the menu changes daily and the food is top notch. Liku-Liku is perfect for honeymooners. (likulikulagoon.com)

Outrigger On The Lagoon Resort: Outrigger’s accommodations consist of luxe rooms on a hill overlooking a 16-hectare compound on a pleasant coral beach. There are also private, thatchroofed bures at the bottom of the hill, closer to the sea, nestled among the palm trees of the resort’s lush and well-manicured gardens. Outrigger is designed to mimic a traditional Fijian village. Filled with bula spirit, it is easy to see why Fiji’s first official five-star resort is so busy. (outrigger. com)
