NUTCRACKER
What: The sugar-spun classic story ballet is an annual tradition at the NAC. This year The Royal Winnipeg Ballet brings its version, with a Canadian twist — a hockey game, Mounties, and a mock battle set on Parliament Hill. Dozens of young Ottawa dancers have bit roles.
Sugar Plum Parties: An hour before each show, there are crafts, dress-up and other activities in the foyer.
Good to know: It’s glitzy, gorgeous, and for many kids, their introduction to ballet. There are no age restrictions, but the show is two hours and five minutes long, so keep that in mind. It could be an expensive flameout for toddlers and kids who can’t sit still that long.
When: Dec. 4 to Dec. 8 at the NAC, both evening and matinee performances
Tickets: $28-$46 for children and students; $53-$90 for adults. At the NAC box office or, with surcharges, at Ticketmaster.
