SkyHawks rack up the points

- DARREN DESAULNIERS

If there was one thing the Ottawa SkyHawks were having at their bench Thursday night it was fun, especially in the fourth quarter.

And why not, as they were in the process of putting together the most lopsided win of their short history as they blew out the visiting Brampton A’s 129-108 at Canadian Tire Centre. Even more impressive, and cause for smiles and high fives, was the fact that the A’s were in a technical tie for first place with the London Lightning, although they trailed the Lightning in winning percentage.

The win was the second for the SkyHawks (7-6) in four days over the A’s (9-4) including a 114-102 win at Brampton on Monday.

Not only was it their most lopsided win, but it was their biggest offensive output and Ottawa native Eric Kibi contributed with 12 points in 7:26 of playing time. He had just two points in six minutes of action coming into the game.

“I’ve just been waiting my turn. That’s what it’s all about and I’m just glad we got the W,” Kibi said. “It’s all about staying ready and don’t get discouraged. I think I’m the youngest one on the team and (teammates) talk to me every day just saying to stay ready and don’t get discouraged.

“It’s great. We got a new coach but I think the ball’s moving a lot more and by not getting in as much, I’ve gotten to watch and when I go in I knew where to be at and went from there.”

The other two Canadians on the team, Jamie Vanderbeken of Belleville and Vancouver’s Bol Kong, contributed eight and five points respectively.

SkyHawks guard Justin Tubbs led all shooters with a game-high 25 points while the A’s were led with an 18-point contribution from Cedric Moodie.
