1 The Blues Brothers: 1980.

Aykroyd famously played Elwood Blues along with the late John Belushi. Aykroyd co-wrote the screenplay with director John Landis. It was released in the U.S. and went on to bring in $115.2 million in theatres worldwide

2 Ghostbuste­rs: 1984.

It was directed and produced by Ivan Reitman and written by Dan Aykroyd and his good friend the late Harold Ramis. It stars Bill Murray, Aykroyd and Ramis as three eccentric parapsycho­logists in New York City. Aykroyd has a strong personal belief in ghosts and spirituali­sm; it is something of a family business, he says. Ghostbuste­rs made more than $291 million.

3 Chaplin: 1992.

It is a biopic about Charlie Chaplin, the famous British comedian of the first half of the 20th century. It was directed by Richard Attenborou­gh and starred Robert Downey Jr. as Chaplin. Aykroyd played the legendary film producer Mack Sennett.

4 Grosse Pointe Blank: 1997.

Directed by George Armitage and stars John Cusack, Minnie Driver and Alan Arkin. Aykroyd plays a character called Grocer. The soundtrack was produced by Joe Strummer of The Clash.

5 Bright Young Things: 2003.

A British drama written and directed by Stephen Fry. The screenplay was based on the 1930 novel Vile Bodies by the satirist Evelyn Waugh. Aykroyd played a newspaper baron called Lord Monomark.
