Enforce sidewalk rules for cyclists
Re: Ottawa police plan more bike blitzes, July 3. I was pleased to see that the Ottawa police are turning their attention to traffic violations by cyclists. As a pedestrian who often encounters reckless cyclists on the sidewalk, I hope that this will include some enforcement of the bylaw prohibiting riding on sidewalks, which in my experience occurs even on streets with bike lanes.
Police or bylaw officers could profitably turn their attention, for example, to the St. Patrick bridge, where there is not only a bike lane but also a sign — never obeyed, of course — telling cyclists to walk their wheels on the sidewalk. William Hallett, Ottawa
