Bonbon: dessert for the senses

- NATHALIE ATKINSON

Viktor & Rolf launched Bonbon in the spring. Dave Lackie and I take an honest whiff.

He says: If you like Thierry Mugler’s Angel, you’ll love Bonbon. I smell a sweet gourmand immediately even though caramel is a heart note. I smell mandarin and peach notes, but they smell like they are coated in sugar. A couple minutes later the orange blossom and jasmine appear. It’s grounded with sandalwood and amber. Think of this as an olfactory dessert. ★★★ She says: It would be hard to follow up on the mega-hit of Flowerbomb, launched nearly a decade ago, but Viktor & Rolf had to try. In the vein of Body Shop vanilla and Aquolina Pink Sugar, Prada Candy sought to elevate the sugary gourmand, and now so do the dynamic Dutch duo. It’s not groundbreaking: overall caramel on a bed of peaches and creamy sandalwood, with dollops of orange. Sudden craving: butterscotch sundae. ★★★
