COSBY QUITS TRUSTEE POST
Sex allegations fallout
Bill Cosby resigned Monday as a trustee of Philadelphia’s Temple University following a string of allegations that accused him of drugging and sexually assaulting women over many years.
The 77-year-old entertainer has been a high-profile cheerleader for his beloved alma mater in Philadelphia and a board member since 1982.
“I have always been proud of my association with Temple University. I have always wanted to do what would be in the best interests of the university and its students. As a result, I have tendered my resignation from the Temple University Board of Trustees,” Cosby said in a statement released by the university.
Meanwhile, a theatre in Westchester County, N.Y., about an hour north of Manhattan, will offer refunds for two upcoming Cosby shows. Patrons of the Tarrytown Music Hall urged the venue to offer refunds for the sold-out shows in the wake of the allegations against the comedian, which he has dis- puted through his lawyer Martin Singer.
At least 18 women have now come forward, several by name, to say Cosby sexually assaulted them, often after drugging them first. He has not been criminally charged and the allegations spanning decades have not been proven in court.
After earlier saying it was contractually obliged to keep the bookings, the Tarrytown theatre has posted an update on its Facebook page saying: “Very pleased to announce that we are now able to of- fer a full refund to all Dec. 6 Cosby ticket holders who no longer wish to attend.”
Casinos in Las Vegas and Arizona and other venues have cancelled Cosby performance dates, but about 30 bookings on his tour remain. The University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where Cosby received his doctorate in education, cut ties with Cosby last week, dropping him from its $300-million fundraising campaign.
