UN: State is ‘collapsing’

The UN envoy to Yemen warned Thursday that the country is at a crossroads between “civil war and disintegration” and a successful political transition, while Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said the state is “collapsing before our eyes.” Jamal Benomar’s briefing to the UN Security Council followed moves by the United States, Britain and France to close their embassies Wednesday amid fears that Houthi rebels will try to expand their control.
