ACORN’S ‘VALLEY SOUL’

-

Vieux Loup is The Acorn's first new album in five years, and the effort is both restrained and spacious. The music — which lives somewhere between folk and electronic — elegantly fills any room its played in, while leader Rolf Klausener's vocals are pulled back, not in hesitance but in patience, as if, after five years, he knows there is no need to hurry, that there is time to reflect, to ponder. The Acorn calls Vieux Loup “an album of valley soul,” and it streams on the band's website, theacorn.ca. The Polaris-nominated Ottawa band holds an LP release for Vieux Loup on Friday, July 3 at House of Common (11b Fairmont Ave.). Tickets, $10, with BBQ at 7 p.m. and music at 8 p.m.
