SANCHEZ SUSPENDED, DOMBROWSKI OUT
Major League Baseball suspended Toronto pitcher Aaron Sanchez for three games and manager John Gibbons for one game Tuesday as part of the fallout of a testy game between the Blue Jays and the Kansas City Royals.
MLB also fined Sanchez an undisclosed amount for intentionally throwing a pitch at Alcides Escobar with warnings in place during the top of the eighth inning of Toronto’s 5-2 win Sunday. Sanchez denied intentionally hitting Escobar, arguing his pitch just got away.
Sanchez said he won’t speak on the suspension until after his appeal was heard by MLB. Gibbons sat out Tuesday’s game against Minnesota.
Meanwhile, news broke Tuesday that Dave Dombrowski is out as president and general manager of the Detroit Tigers, ending a run of nearly 14 seasons in which he helped turn the franchise from an afterthought into one of the American League’s powerhouses.
Dombrowski, 59, was the GM for the Montreal Expos and Marlins before moving to Detroit. Within minutes of his departure, there was rampant speculation linking him to a possible move to the Blue Jays.
As well, it appears David Price is already paying off for the Jays.
The Toronto debut of the recently acquired ace on Monday saw a spike in secondary ticket sales for the Blue Jays, with the cost of seats for Price’s 5-1 win over the Twins nearly doubling, rocketing to $69.
