The search is on for an extra special caregiver

-

Do you know an Ottawa caregiver who deserves $10,000? A unique campaign launched in Central Canada wants to hear from you.

Called Canada Cares (www.canadacares.org), the campaign recognizes the efforts of Canadian family, friends and professional caregivers. Until Sept. 18, Ottawa residents are encouraged to nominate an exceptional family, friend or professional caregiver for an award, and explain what the caregiver would do with a $10,000 prize.

“It’s no secret that caregiving is an all-consuming, selfless job that can take its toll on anyone,” said Caroline Tapp-McDougall, chair of Canada Cares, citing studies that show a surge in the number of Canadian caregivers, with one in four adults currently caring for a loved one.

“Our message to caregivers is that we appreciate, support and thank you for your tireless commitment.”

Ten awards will be presented nationally, recognizing five in a family/ friend category and five outstanding professional caregivers, covering four regions – Central, Atlantic, Western and Northern Canada. An additional recipient will be selected to win the $10,000 Canada Cares One Wish Award.

Nominations can be submitted online, by mail or by video, and will be accepted until Sept. 18, with winners announced in November. For details on how to nominate a caregiver, visit www.canadacares.org.
