REDBLACKS VS. RIDERS
Kickoff: Sunday, 4 p.m., TD Place stadium. Watch it: TSN, RDS2. Hear it: TSN 1200 AM, 104.7 FM; SiriusXM 167 (English) and 164 or 174 (French).
Redblacks’ last game: 30-24 road loss against Toronto Argonauts.
Roughriders’ last game: 34-31 home loss against Calgary Stampeders.
Players to watch Redblacks: Brad Sinopoli — One of the handful of new receivers acquired in the offseason, Sinopoli has exceeded expectations in the city where he had been a university football star with the Gee-Gees. Through eight games, he led all CFLers with 40 receptions, or nearly 75 per cent of his total in four previous seasons as a quarterback/receiver with the Stampeders.
Roughriders: Brett Smith — A 23-year-old rookie from Oregon via the University of Wyoming, Smith was thrust into starting duty because of injuries to veteran QBs Darian Durant and Kevin Glenn. The Roughriders still haven’t won, but Smith helped throw a scare into the Stamps with 178 passing yards (and three touchdowns) and 54 rushing yards.
Something you didn’t know about … Alex Pierzchalski: Marcin Pierzchalski, great-grandfather of the Redblacks’ 24-year-old backup receiver and specialteams player from London, Ont., and the University of Toronto, fought with Polish forces in the First and Second World Wars. “He survived and he was a warrior,” Alex Pierzchalski says. “He’s somebody I’m very proud of. I’m going to name my first son after him.”
